Celebrating Freedom

I put my flag out Monday to honor those who gave their lives for our country. I love my country. I love the freedoms that I have.

I confess that as a follower of Jesus and citizen of the kingdom of God, I live in the tension of living a dual citizenship.

My first allegiance is to Jesus Christ and His kingdom. I believe it gives me the critical tools to live in the United States.

My loyalty to my earthly country can only go so far. Thankfully, my country allows me to have this religious liberty.

Our country stops once a year and honors those who fought for our civil liberties. As Christians, we are called to remember our Lord and the life that he gave for our eternal liberty.

We are freed from death to live for Christ and His kingdom. I have been praying for my brothers and sisters who serve in countries that do not give their citizens the freedoms that I enjoy.

I remember to pray for them. They live in the tension of being dual citizens; and for many it is costing them their lives.

My prayer is that the Gospel of Jesus Christ will continue to open hearts and that many will become followers of our Lord.

This is our call too! We are here to proclaim that Jesus Christ is risen and that He is exalted on God’s throne.

Until the day that he returns, we must be committed to the mission of making more and better disciples of Jesus.
